RealVNC®, the original developer and provider of VNC® remote access and control software, has enhanced its core shrink-wrapped product, VNC, providing powerful new capabilities for System Administrators.

RealVNC’s new release, VNC 5.1, contains three key updates, the most significant of which, for Windows users, is the provision of Microsoft Standard Installer (MSI) technology. This means System Administrators can use familiar, industry-standard tools to remotely deploy VNC software. In the same way, license keys for VNC deployments can now be centrally managed.

VNC 5.1 with an Enterprise license also supports policy under all platforms, enabling System Administrators to remotely configure VNC software, and lock it down to prevent change by users. In addition, VNC can also be remotely licensed via policy.

The host component, VNC Server, also has a new update and notification service, which can manually or automatically check for critical security patches and product updates, so that users receive a notification about a new version of the software as soon as it’s available, making it easier for System Administrators to keep the software up-to-date.

Continuing in its mission to be the leading cross-platform remote access software, VNC 5.1 fully supports the latest versions of Windows, Mac OS X and Linux platforms, including Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, Windows 8.1, Ubuntu 13.10, and Fedora 19.

VNC 5.1 is available to download here. Free, Personal, and Enterprise licenses are available, enabling different feature sets.
