RealVNC® demonstrates VNC® Automotive at Telematics Japan for the first time

After exhibiting at Telematics Detroit and Telematics Munich, RealVNC® will be heading to Telematics Japan - from November 29 – 30 at Hilton Tokyo - to showcase its latest VNC® Automotive solution for connecting mobile devices to in-vehicle infotainment systems. As a core member of the Car Connectivity Consortium, RealVNC is commited to creating a common standard for delivering a seamless, safe and effortless user experience. VNC Automotive also supports other connectivity protocols such as MirrorLink, a standard based on VNC, and iPod Out, to provide the widest range of mobile handset coverage from a single head unit Human Machine Interface (HMI).

VNC Automotive replicates the screen of the mobile device on the vehicle head unit, giving drivers access to all of their mobile content, such as navigation applications, traffic updates, music libraries and internet radio stations whilst on the move. The mobile device can be directly controlled from the infotainment system touch screen, vehicle bezel keys, steering wheel switches and by voice command, ensuring the content can be accessed safely and simply. The technology also enables the head unit to maintain a connection back to, and from, a remote desktop PC, enterprise systems or cloud based applications.

Jaguar Land Rover is just one of the leading automotive manufacturers implementing VNC Automotive technology as part of its Connect and View™ solution that will be incorporated into production cycles of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in 2012. Other customers and partners include RIM, Denso, Clarion, Wipro, Cybercom, Visteon and QNX with further announcements expected in the coming months. RealVNC automatically maintains the VNC software components for all operating systems and new devices, removing the need for Automotive manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to continuously upgrade in-vehicle system software to keep pace within the ever changing mobile market.

“We are working closely with a number of Japanese Automotive manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers and Telematics Japan provides an ideal opportunity to showcase our powerful VNC Automotive technology to a diverse and influential audience,” said Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile, RealVNC. “A major benefit with VNC Automotive is that it is device agnostic, flexible and offers the opportunity to enhance and differentiate product offerings, and most importantly provides guaranteed interoperability. The mobile software is a downloadable application delivered from the relevant mobile App store. The application can be branded to the auto OEMs specification and provides a revenue opportunity from sales of the related mobile Apps.”
