Pioneering integration by Jaguar Land Rover, BlackBerry®, Denso and RealVNC®
Jaguar Land Rover joins with BlackBerry® , Denso and RealVNC® to develop the latest generation of integrated mobile phone and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
The level of integration possible between a car and a Smartphone has been taken a step further at the BlackBerry World™ conference today with the unveiling of an innovative new system that projects the display of a Smartphone onto the central touch screen of a vehicle. The system only allows approved apps to be displayed and controlled but can utilize data from the vehicle systems.
Demonstrated on a Jaguar XJ linked to a Blackberry device, the system, called ‘Connect and View™’, adds to the usual making and receiving of calls via a mobile phone with functionality that allows applications, music and navigation systems operating through the phone to be replicated on the large, central touch screen display fitted to the XJ. This has the benefits of ease of use, greater functionality and embraces the users personalized Smartphone.
Bob Joyce, Group Engineering Director, Jaguar Land Rover said: “We’re proud to be a part of such innovation that has efficiency, convenience and clever integration at its core. Such systems will make a significant difference to the way our customers use the entertainment systems on our vehicles as well as their Smartphones”.
A Jaguar XJ will be the first car to demonstrate ‘Connect and View™’ at the BlackBerry World™ Conference. The XJ has been widely acclaimed for its class-leading technology and design and was recently awarded the 2011 International Luxury Car of the Year by the International Car of The Year jury.
Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile of RealVNC added, “We are excited to work with such prestigious brands as BlackBerry®, Jaguar, Range Rover and Land Rover. Their choice to adopt VNC® and confidence to move towards production with our solution gives us great belief of the applicability of VNC to the automotive industry.”
The ‘Connect and View™’ RealVNC software system will be available in both Jaguar and Land Rover products from late 2012.
RealVNC’s software solutions are used by hundreds of millions of people in both desktop and mobile platforms for remote access and control. VNC is used widely in hundreds of different applications, from helpdesks to virtualization. RealVNC’s commercial products have been shipped to customers in all sectors throughout the world.
RealVNC also works with many OEM partners to license VNC technology for inclusion in their product or service and is the only organization offering a commercial license to embed remote access capability in third-party products and offerings.
