VNC® Mobile Solution showcased at Telematics Detroit 2010
RealVNC® demonstrates remote access and control of mobile devices from in-vehicle telematics and infotainment systems on booth 57
At next month's Telematics Detroit 2010, RealVNC® is featuring its new VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive that provides remote access and control of mobile devices and desktop computers, directly from in-vehicle telematics or infotainment systems.
With VNC Mobile Solution, any mobile device entering the vehicle can be automatically detected, accessed and controlled from the vehicle's touch-screen or fixed input devices such as steering wheel switches and existing head unit buttons and menus. Connection can also be made back to a remote PC or enterprise system, giving instant access to applications such as stock control, order-entry systems, billing and invoicing as well as maps and schematics.
Companies such as Cybercom are already using RealVNC's solution to build a new generation of automotive applications. "VNC Mobile Solution provides us with an excellent platform to deliver market-leading mobile remote control technology, giving our major automotive customers new ways of setting up their future business model within the infotainment area," said Håkan Fernström, Head of Automotive Division Cybercom.
VNC Mobile Solution supports a range of in-vehicle embedded operating systems including Linux, Windows Automotive, CE, QNX, Qt, Android and other proprietary operating systems. Multiple mobile platforms are supported including Windows Mobile, Symbian and Blackberry, with development versions for iPhone, Android, Linux Mobile and Palm Pre, providing comprehensive coverage for all leading mobile devices from a single solution.
VNC Mobile Solution removes the burden of keeping car systems up-to-date and compatible with multiple new mobile devices and operating systems. It is packaged as a Software Development Kit (SDK) for easy integration into existing and new products, maintaining corporate branding with a consistent look-and-feel.
"Telematics Detroit provides an ideal platform to showcase our new VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive to the world’s leading automotive manufacturers and equipment suppliers," said Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile of RealVNC. "We believe that VNC technology offers a compelling proposition for cross-platform embedded mobile remote control for an exciting new range of in-vehicle applications."
