At this week’s QNX Automotive Summit on 17th November in Stuttgart, Germany, RealVNC® will be demonstrating its VNC® Mobile Solution for Automotive, that provides remote access and control of virtually any mobile device and desktop computer directly from a vehicle head unit or infotainment system.

RealVNC has harnessed its VNC technology to create a solution that can automatically detect, access and control virtually any mobile device or desktop computer from the vehicle’s touch-screen or fixed input devices such as steering wheel switches and head unit buttons and menus. This provides a simple method of accessing mobile-device applications and content, as well as home or back office systems and cloud-based applications. As part of the solution, RealVNC offers mechanisms for policing application access to minimize driver distraction and help maintain safe operation.

VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive has the advantage of a single common head unit HMI design, providing vehicle manufacturers with a best-in-class, industry-standard solution that supports the widest range of mobile devices including existing legacy devices. This removes the burden that exists for car manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to continuously upgrade in-vehicle system software to keep pace within the fast moving mobile market.

RealVNC also supports emerging standards such as Terminal Mode. Based on VNC, Terminal Mode is an open standard from CE4A (the German Automotive industry working group comprising Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Volkswagen) and Nokia. VNC also supports Apple’s iPod Out feature that enables the infotainment system to display and control content from an iPhone or iPod touch, including music and album art using the familiar Apple interface.

VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive is an OEM package that supports a range of in-vehicle embedded operating systems. RealVNC continues to provide cross-platform solutions with all leading mobile devices supported, including Windows Mobile, Symbian, Blackberry, iPhone, Android, WebOS and Linux.

“The QNX Automotive Summit is an ideal platform to present VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive to senior automotive industry, executives, industry thought leaders and government officials,” said Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile of RealVNC.
